I love a birthday, especially a child’s birthday, and was asked to make the cake for a new petite friend who just started kindergarten in September when she was 5. The difference a month makes, or, as my grandmother said, a day makes a difference!

The surprise is the small oblong cake on top. Eva’s father is out of the country on business and will miss today’s party, but he won’t miss out on cake! The little cake can be lifted off and popped into the freezer for a second celebration when he returns to Seattle next week. That’s two. Two chocolate cakes in one for a happy birthday, a chocolate cream cheese frosting with a hint of peppermint, and sprinkles, all with the good wishes of Lady Lolita VandenBug.
