
What do you do with storebought purple plums and nectarines that are a bit too mushy for snacks? Stew them for breakfast? Make jam? Use them for baking? Since it’s a bit chillier in Seattle following our brief heat wave, I decided in favor of a hot oven and the aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg spiced crisp with plenty of oatmeal and walnuts. I can smell it now all the way from the kitchen to my desk, so it must be about time to take some goodness out of the oven, wait five minutes for it to cool and … call it breakfast. Fruit, oatmeal, nuts and a bit of cream along with the DVR’d Belgian Formula 1 race. Ooo-la-la. Leftovers won’t be bad, either.
