Caramel Sea Salt Chip and Walnut Cookies

Tasty blend of sweet and salt

In a previous post, I told the “discovery” story of how I’d found and used Trader Joe’s Caramel Sea Salt Baking Chips in several of my own and one family recipe.* Last week I made cookies for my sister and niece (who had a birthday), and froze some dough to make a dozen for my ladies at our weekly Mahjongg afternoon. I used the recipe on the bag, which makes a tasty cookie, but it calls for unsalted butter plus 1 teaspoon of salt. Meanwhile, each of the chips has a noticeable blast of sea salt. I thought it might be a bit much salt, so I added an extra teaspoon of vanilla. Next time I make them, I will use salted butter plus 1/4 teaspoon of salt and the extra vanilla (which compliments caramel.) Many of the people with whom I share cookies limit their salt intake and I found that the package recipe has too much salt for my palate. I will make them again because they’re tasty indeed.

Recipe is on the package, but I recommend a couple changes. Still, tasty, tasty.
