Crazy Cake with Penuche Frosting

Workmen are descending on the property in the morning for a massive cleanup, so I mustered some energy to bake them the cake known to please. It’s the favorite cake and frosting combination of many family members, has made its way to countless picnics, potlucks and gatherings and I’m pretty sure the chaps will be delighted.

A neighbor, surprising me at the grocery store today with a ride home on account of two weeks flu having knocked the stuffing out of me, asked “What’s penuche?” Well, it’s also known as panocha and is a cooked brown sugar, butter and cream frosting. I told her that she must have known there’d be cake today! Happy Valentine’s Day, too.
