My daughter has been celebrating her birthday weekend glamping in a forest with her cousins. When I told the manager here that Maria would be glamping, he said, “Ah, getting more glamorous.” Nope, different definition. They’re sleeping in king size beds inside of yurts in a beautiful rustic setting called Olympic Wilderness Base Camp, owned and operated by the dear friend of a favorite cousin. I sent along this homemade chocolate cake topped with real penuche fudge, which happens to be the family favorite. Today, the 6th of August, is Maria’s birthday, born in London on what was then the hottest day of summer and the hospital running on emergency generators since the power was out, with my sister Laurie there for the event. Perhaps the cake survived until today but the whole weekend was the celebration. Happy Birthday to my darling daughter.
